French Broad Adventures is committed to sustainable business practices. As an ecotourism provider we offer people the opportunity to visit pristine and relatively undisturbed natural areas in a way that is low-impact, conserves natural resources and sustains the well-being of the local community. Our goal is to foster environmental stewardship by providing positive outdoor experiences that help raise awareness and sensitivity to the fragile nature of our ecosystem.
One of the most important parts of our strategy to be more environmentally responsible was the implementation of our biodiesel conversion. In 2007 we transitioned our rafting buses to biodiesel fuel made locally by Blue Ridge Biofuels, and in 2013 we added our new zipline UTV’s to the biodiesel fleet. Based in Asheville, Blue Ridge Biofuels produces all of their biodiesel from used cooking oil collected from area restaurants. Biodiesel is a clean-burning renewable alternative to petroleum diesel fuel. It is arguably the most sustainable alternative fuel available and has significantly lower green house gas emissions than conventional petroleum diesel. Not to mention it has a pleasant smell reminiscent of french fries!
As an outdoor adventure provider one of our most important priorities is the conservation of our natural resources. Our zipline course has been designed with a deep appreciation and respect for the rich biodiversity of the Blue Ridge Mountains, taking care to protect and enjoy the many beautiful old-growth trees on our mountain property, and our river trips spotlight the majestic beauty of the French Broad River Valley and give guests the opportunity to enjoy one of the oldest rivers in the world while preserving her beauty for generations to come. Most importantly, our family here at French Broad Adventures is dedicated to making memories that your family can cherish for a lifetime, and we hope that you will join us on your next outdoor adventure.
