Twins are fun. Unless you can’t tell them apart, then they are the ones having all the fun. They tell us that they’ve never played tricks on people or pretended to be “the other twin” to get a laugh. We don’t believe them.
As twins go, Michael and Mitch are pretty darn identical. Most of our staff will admit that it took them anywhere from a few weeks to a few months to really be certain they could tell the two apart. Some will secretly admit they still don’t always get it right. This has led to the common practice of referring to both of them by their last name, as in “Hey, Hampton!”
A few years ago on their birthday the staff threw them a big party. We all played an amazing game that night – “Which Hampton is Which?” We put out a poster board with a bunch of pictures of the twins together from birth to their current age and numbered them “one” and “two” in each picture. The staff member who guessed the most right got a prize. Truthfully, there were even a few baby pictures that the twins themselves were a bit unsure of, but there was no such uncertainty from their mom – who acted as the final judge that night.
All in all it was a decent showing, with the winning staff member boasting about 80 percent accuracy. Not bad unless you consider that this particular raft guide had worked with us for about ten years at the time! So if you’re pretty confident you have them figured out, give it a guess next time you’re visiting us. Otherwise, “Hampton” will work just fine.
